Pink Beach (Tangsi Beach)

Pink Beach, locally known as Tangsi Beach, is one of Lombok’s most unique and beautiful natural attractions. It’s famous for its soft pink-colored sand, a rare phenomenon found in only a few places worldwide.

Why Is the Sand Pink?

The soft pastel pink hue is 100% natural. It comes from a mix of:

  • White calcium carbonate sand (from broken coral and shells).
  • Tiny red fragments of foraminifera (microscopic single-celled marine organisms with pink/red shells) and crushed red organ pipe coral that wash up from the nearby reef.

The color is most vivid when the sand is wet (at the water’s edge or low tide), in soft morning or late-afternoon light. It can look subtler in harsh midday sun and is often described as a gentle blush rather than neon pink.

Note: There are a few other pink beaches in the same national park (e.g., Long Beach on nearby Padar Island), but the main “Pink Beach” on Komodo Island is the most visited and photographed.

How to Get There

You can only reach Pink Beach by boat—no roads exist. Most visitors start from Labuan Bajo (fly into Komodo Airport/LBJ from Bali or Jakarta):

  • Standard wooden boat: 2–3.5 hours.
  • Speedboat: 1.5–2 hours.

Options include:

  • Day tours from Labuan Bajo (shared, affordable, often bundled with Padar Island hike, Komodo dragons, and snorkeling).
  • Private charters or liveaboard cruises (more flexible, fewer crowds, ideal for sunrise/sunset visits).
  • Park entrance fees and permits are usually included or paid on-site.

Tours frequently combine it with other Komodo highlights for a full-day adventure.

Best Time to Visit

  • Dry season (April–November): Calm seas, excellent snorkeling visibility, and clearer skies. Peak crowds are June–October.
  • Early morning (7–9 a.m.) or late afternoon (3–5 p.m.): Best light for photos, fewer boats, and stronger pink tones.
  • Avoid the wet season (December–March) if possible—rougher seas and more rain.

What to Expect & Activities

The beach is a small, sheltered cove (~250m long) with calm, shallow turquoise waters ideal for swimming right off the shore. A short 10–15 minute hike up the hill behind the beach offers stunning panoramic views.

Top activities:

  • Snorkeling — Excellent from shore: colorful corals, clownfish, parrotfish, butterflyfish, and sea turtles (visibility is best in dry season).
  • Relaxing and sunbathing.
  • Photography (the contrast of pink sand, turquoise water, and green hills is unreal).
  • Small local warungs (shacks) sell snacks and drinks.

There are no resorts or major facilities—it’s kept pristine. The beach can get busy with tour boats midday but feels intimate early or late.

Practical Tips

  • Bring: Reef-safe sunscreen, swimsuit, towel/sarong, water shoes, hat, cash (IDR), dry bag, and trash bag (carry out what you bring).
  • Rules: Do not remove sand, shells, or coral (it’s illegal). Stay off the reefs, use reef-safe products, and follow ranger/guide instructions.
  • Crowds & conservation: Popular tours can lead to boat traffic—choose responsible operators that limit group sizes and follow eco-practices.
  • Nearby: Combine with Padar Island (another pink beach + epic viewpoint), Komodo dragon trekking, or manta ray snorkeling.

Pink Beach Komodo remains a bucket-list highlight for its rarity, natural beauty, and world-class snorkeling. If you’re planning a trip, book boats/liveaboards in advance, especially for 2026 peak season! get in touch with us by WhatsApp or E-Mail
